The Photo Shoot

We carried out our photoshoot using our model Ashaana Bheir. These are some of the photographs that we took. We used the monochrome setting and the colour setting to take the photographs. I prefer the monochrome pictures to the colour pictures, as I feel as if the monochrome connotes more soul and depth, and I think it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Photography Call Sheet

Photographer - COURTNEY DIONNE CARR

  Timeline:

DATE: Wednesday 9th December, 2015

CALL TIME: Approx 15:00pm

14.45 pm -  Model and photographer meet outside studio

14.50 - 15:00 pm - Model gets ready for shoot (make-up and hair will be done prior to this allotted time. Model is to change into her selected attire for the shoot.)

15:00 pm – Shoot starts

16:00 pm - End of shoot

Concept:

The model plays the part of the artist Tori Kelly, and the name of the single chosen is "All in my head." The model is to depict a woman confused of her emotional feelings. She is to be consumed within herself and full of passion - and confusion is a main theme. The main shots used will be close-ups, as these type of shots highlight facial features and small details , and this is important when portraying this type of character. A mixture of monochrome and colour shots will be used to show the confusion and different sides to the artist.

(TASK 8) The Pitch

I created a PowerPoint presentation using the technology of Prezi for my pitch of initial ideas for my CD Digipack. I like using this software because it is very interactive and innovative. For instance, I was able to add my chosen track to the presentation, so that viewers could hear the track as well as watch my slides.  Below is also a video of my performance of my pitch.

(TASK 8) The Mock-ups

These are my mock-ups for my CD-Digipack and A4 Advert. They feature the spine, inside left and right, back and front, as well as my advert. My main colour scheme will be monochrome and green, which I have taken from my case study of Adele's album '21.'

(Task 7) The Final Product

Having finished filming all of our footage ,Lyle and I have also finally finished editing. We have submitted the final product, placing it on Youtube and our blogs. Our music video is entitled 'All in my head' by Tori Kelly. I think that we have worked exceptionally well as a pair and we have demonstrated our progress during this journey. I think that this product is of a great quality and demonstrates our progression from AS.

(TASK 6) Filming

Today we filmed the scenes that take place in the bedroom, having already gained permission from the home owner to use the facility.

Call sheet for 23/10/15

This is the call sheet for today's shoot in the location of the bedroom. We filmed all of the scenes from this location, including the over-head shot of Lyle and Ashaana talking on the bed. This shoot went exceptionally well because, we were not outside so outside noise could not interfere. On the other hand the lighting gave a yellow tint to the clips. There was no break as the shoot was under an hour.

(TASK 7) Editing

Today, we edited the lip synch footage using Final Cut Pro. For example, we edited quite a few of the clips by shortening them so that we could appropriately place it in the right positions. We also added an effect on two of the lip syncing shots - we placed them together and reduced the opaqueness of one of the shots, so that they faded together.

Researching and Planning the Moving Image Work

I completed an evaluation, comparing my AS journey regarding elements such as logistics and planning, with my A2 journey so far. I have used the creative technology of Prezi and please view the presentation, which is embedded in this blog post.

(TASK 6) Shooting the video

Today we used the Television Studio in college, in order to film the lip syncing. Originally, whilst planning at the very start of our project, we were going to make our actress lip synch in the parks, forests and natural settings we used. However, we felt as if it would be more professional to film the lip synching in the studio. I think that shooting lip synching only works for some songs, and we felt that for our narrative based video it would be too corny.

This was a good session of shooting, as we were able to complete all the recorded lip synch shots. There was also useful pieces of technology to aid us, such as a laptop and television to play the song and show our actor the lyrics.

Call sheet for 16/10/15

This is the call shoot for today's shoot (16th October, 2015). We shot a large element of the music video today, as we were shooting the lip-synch scenes. The cast was Ashaana Bheir and the crew was Lyle Barrett and Courtney Carr (me). We shot these scenes in the TV studio, and in terms of costuming, Ashaana wore a white jumper and silver jewellery. Her hair was tied up so that the focal point could be her face, which would be especially useful when shooting medium-close ups and close-ups.

Team Meeting

We have decided to not use the table templates that we used for our  other team meetings, because as we progress, the team meeting becomes more detailed. It is easier and neater to type up the minutes
straight onto our blogger, but we also have a copy in Word. Although we met yesterday, we felt it was necessary to meet today, as we are filming tomorrow.

Team Meeting :15/10/2015

Attendees: Lyle Barrett and Courtney D. Carr

Time of start: 10.43 am

Time of end: 11.40 am

Agenda:

- We have called this meeting to discuss our progress so far and what we have left to do.

      SUBJECTS DISCUSSED:

  •  We have discussed our progress so far. We have made good progress with filming but we realise that we have a lot to do in order to meet the deadline. We have decided to complete the goal of filming the rest of our footage by filming for extra days during the half term holiday.

  • Availability and commitment: We have had some problems with commitment from the supporting parties, and in order to solve this we have revised our filming schedule so that everyone can be available. We have also compared college time tables so that we can shoot in our breaks, if possible.

  •  We also discussed the issue of the weather changing. Late Autumn is approaching and the clocks are due to go back on the 26th October 2015. This means it will get darker quicker. In order to resolve this issue, we have decided to film our narrative inside instead of outside because of our availability. Furthermore, we have decided to book the Television Studio in college, in order to shoot the lip syncing. We have decided to not film in the outside locations as originally planned, because we felt that it would look better filmed in a closed room. We also want the lip syncing to be in black and white, so we plan to set the camera to the monochrome setting, so that when we edit we do not have to use final Cut Pro to alter the colour appearance.

Team meeting

Lyle and I are continuously meeting to discuss our progress. Today we met to discuss where we are now. We have not stuck to our original dates on our call sheet, but it has taught us to be more flexible and given that we have at least two more weeks.

A brief outline of what we discussed are as followed:

- Our progress so far
- What we have left to film
- A change of plan (changing the planned order of the shoots)

Please refer to the table below to see more details.

(TASK 7) Editing the Video

Today, Lyle and I continued to edit and we made an important decision. We discovered that the footage that we filmed in the park was too dark, and we have a lack of time to re-film this particular section. Rather than let it set us back, we have decided to re-film the original outside narrative scenes in the cafe instead. This is because  the lighting is much better, as seen as below. This setting is also not as restrictive - with artificial lighting we are able to film for longer hours. The narrative scenes in the cafe look much better as well.

Call sheet for 12/10/15

This is the call sheet for today's shoot in Café brunch on Wanstead High street. We shot the beginning narrative scenes and the ending narrative scenes. Today's shoot was difficult because we hadn't scripted the speech, so we had to do a lot of re-takes due to mistakes. However we were able to film the majority of what we had planned.

(TASK 6) Shooting the video

Today Lyle and I filmed in one of our locations. I am the director of the music video as Lyle is one of the actors, but he is one of the producers along with myself. As you can see in the figures below, Lyle  set up the camera today and  adjusted the settings. We used manual focus but found that some of our footage was out of focus, especially the narrative scene.  However this added to the whole effect of the scene, as Lyle is meant to appear distant during the narrative scenes. The slight lack of focus on his face really brings this across to the audience.. In these scenes Ashaana, who plays the main girl,  pours out her heart to Lyle,  my partner in this project and the actor who plays the main guy. We filmed the narrative scenes of our video as planned in our discussions as a team.

(TASK 7) Editing

Today we edited the footage we filmed in the park. This location was brilliant to use as there are a lot of open spaces and this reduces the risk of lighting becoming an issue. It was also quite empty given the day, time of day, and cold season - where most people were at school, home or work. Therefore we did not have the issue of disturbing the general public.

Positives: We were able to film some of our required shots and  we were able to make progress by beginning the editing process. The first photograph shows Lyle and I editing the beginning of our music video. We were picking which establishing shot to use at the beginning of our video, as we filmed two different versions.

Negatives: I felt as if we could have carried out even more filming during the time we were at the location. I believe we were slower because we need still need to improve our technical skills, but more so our time management skills. We will revise this issue in our subsequent team meeting. My suggestion is that we organise our time better.

Call sheet for 8/10/15

This is the call sheet for today's shoot.

(TASK 6) Shooting the video

Today we filmed in the location of Alexandra Palace and Park. This day was successful as we filmed the bulk of our narrative scenes. Those present were myself, Lyle, Demi and Ashaana. The only negative aspect was that, due to the season, it got dark quite quickly. This limited the amount of time we could spend filming. However it was isolated so we didn't disturb the public.

Call sheet for 6/10/2015

We completed a call sheet after filming today, to formally outline the successes and failures of the day. We used the same template that we used to create the overall call sheet for all our proposed filming dates. Today was a successful day of filming and we wanted to document our progress.

(TASK 6) Shooting the Video

Today I began filming for our music video. As I am the director and person in charge of the camera, I used my creative vision to try out different shots. Firstly, we filmed scene 8 - the piggy back scene. I tried a long shot at first because that is one of the original ideas that we had. However for an intimate scene , the camera angle and shot type seemed distant. I then switched to a handheld camera and used an extreme close up. This translated better on camera and created an intimate atmosphere.

(TASK 5) Request to use copyright

In the music industry, individuals have to seek copyright permission from the owner of the music track that they would like to use. This is an example of me doing so, asking Tori Kelly's label 'Capitol Records' for permission to use her song 'All in my head.'

(TASK 5) Team Meeting

Lyle and I decided to meet today to finalise our plans. We discusses the topics of sexual elements, Lyle acting, availability and the overall plan. Please find more details below:

(TASK 5) Pre-production Recce

Lyle and I created a Recce - a document showing pictures of our locations with annotated details regarding the positive aspects of using the location, and the risk factors. We used the software of Prezi and please find the presentation below:

(TASK 5) Pre-production talent and location release

We want all our actors to have full acknowledgement of our plans and details regarding the music video. Therefore we asked them to sign an agreement. Also we are using Lyle's bedroom so we wanted to get the homeowner's permission:

(TASK 5) Pre-production Risk assessments

We completed risk assessments for the locations for the bedroom we are using, the park, the street and cafe. Please find it enclosed below:

(TASK 5) Pre-production storyboard Final Version

We transferred our storyboard onto a neater template. Please find it below:

(TASK 5) Pre-production storyboard

Today Lyle and I finished our storyboard, completing three pages. We are satisfies with our work and I think that having a storyboard will guide us. We annotated the storyboard in detail in terms of mise-en-scene, camera, lighting etc.

Thursday, 1 October 2015

(TASK 5) Pre-Production storyboard

Lyle and I have almost finished our storyboard, and today we added 3 more scenes

Wednesday, 30 September 2015

(TASK 5) Pre-production storyboard

Today we added to our storyboard. We came up with two new shots/scenes and discussed how we could continue to build our storyboard. A new idea for a prop came up- we decides to create an imaginary versus reality dice.

Monday, 28 September 2015

(TASK 5) Pre-production storyboard

Today, we started creating our storyboard, setting out the most important shots of our music video. I think that this storyboard planning is a good way of structuring our shots and organising our time.
